Halal is a term that refers to any behaviour or action that is permissible according to the Islamic culture. This is in contrast to “haram” which means any behaviours or actions that are unlawful or impermissible to the faith.
Halal meat differs from conventional meat in a couple of ways.
The most obvious is the slaughter of the animals.
For meat to be considered halal the animals must be slaughtered in accordance with the Islamic law as stipulated in the Quran.

The cut should be carried out with a very sharp object to reduce any pain and suffering to the animal as much as possible. It must also be performed by a Muslim, by hand who speaks a blessing over the animal in Allah’s name during the slaughter.
Under Islamic law, animals are also afforded certain rights when they’re alive for their meat to qualify as Halal.
For instance, they are required to live for a defined minimum period.
Meaning of Tayyib
This is in accordance with the Islamic concept of Tayyib which means “wholesome”.
Under Tayyib, all animals should be treated with maximum care and allowed to mature naturally. This means they are not to be subjected
to growth hormones or treated with antibiotics.
In this regard, both halal and organic rearing of animals focus dominantly on the philosophy of grass feeding. This practice ensures the meat has higher concentrations of vitamins, antioxidants, omega -3 fats and Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) than non-organic and non-halal meat.

According to Islam, the animal must live a “pure” life for the meat to be halal. It must not be mistreated or abused. It must also be fed
with clean food and water and never be nourished with products from other animals.

Also, since all the blood is drained out, the chances of getting infected with E. coli, Salmonella and other food borne pathogens is highly diminished.
Although halal meat does not have a distinct taste from conventional meat, it is lighter in colour (due to the removal of blood) and considered by
many to be “softer” though others consider it to be no different in texture than the traditional meat.
